A new world starts with your mind

Too many people promise a new city, a new country, a new way of doing things, a new business, a new man or woman…

But, you know, everything new starts with a new mind. For instance, let’s say we want a new world (we want it, right?):

Sow the seeds for a new world. They come from the best part of you – from your courage, honesty and love, from the sweetness you treat others and the pure intentions you have when you are working. Let all of that floods your mind with good thoughts and wonderful feelings.

Ah, before that… plough your mind a little bit. Unfortunately, we are so much engrossed into a world with so many problems that the idea of a total new world in which those problems are solved, are easy to solve or simply don’t exist is insane… And yet… that’s part of the game of thinking of a new world. Start to read more about a new world and talk with other people; awaken those crazy ideas that a better world IS REALLY POSSIBLE!

Take care of those thoughts. The best way to create a new world is from a new self; so, start to change little things here and there, improve your habits and your life’s quality. The other day, I was watching a video that showed how a guy moved out of a crowded city to give a better quality for his dog – why don’t we do a similar thing to our own selves?

Water it daily and be careful with the birds! You need to create a new thought every day for a new world; for instance, one day you may think on how the economics will be and another day, how the politics will be there. But, you know the birds, they love to eat new green leaves… in your case, new ideas will be tested and fought by your best friends, your mum and dad, your kids, and of course your boss and mother-in-law… So, be prepared to have good arguments and maybe, to encourage them to think of a new world too, why not?

The crop will take time. A new world starts with in your mind and with your mind, but it takes time to come to reality. Still, believe me, it will come one day… just be patient and keep on cultivating it. One day, the new world will blossom for you!

Can we start all over again?

Our civilization has generated a dependency on things and people who are just an image or voice, so imagine if that is cut.

In fact, we had a small rehearsal of a few years with the COVID pandemic. I will give a personal example.

Every year I used to travel to India; it was something very valuable for my personal growth and I used to enjoy the interaction with people from so many countries. And all of a suddenly ¡it was OVER! For two years I had to just sit and miss being there…

Eventually, the travels for foreigners resumed to India, but I keep thinking if that was it: if our civilization finally reach to a halt and we had to live in a totally different civilization.

Because I don’t think the world will end as it becomes extinct; I keep imagining a world that had to reset itself.

A few thoughts on that:

  • Instead of travelling to other places, we may have to enjoy and go deep on the places we live. It is an interesting way to see our reality in a different way.
  • Maybe we won’t have internet to communicate with others, but this is the chance to communicate with the self, God and even nature.
  • It is possible our present comforts won’t be present, so we will need to comfort ourselves in different ways by meditating, praying or just enjoying nature.
  • We won’t have our favorite foods! So, we will have to make whatever is available into our favorite food.

And the list goes on… The important thing is if someday the end comes, remember you can always reset your world.

Undergoing the surgery of the self

Just think of yourself as something more than your body… Can you see which sicknesses affect the soul, for using a word?

Many years ago, I listened to someone who referred the crisis on values as one of those illnesses and it is clear the pandemic of loneliness also comes from within, as a virus that is affecting the self.

The present war, the greed that is eating the world, the lack of trust on institutions and many other things are visible symptoms that indicate something is not right – and if they are not right in the macro level, we should think things are not right in the micro level.

Comparing with a body, we think of it as sick when organs are not working as they should and, by understanding the symptoms, we can find out the sickness and look for a cure.

My question is: what to do in relation to a sick soul?

That means ME, YOU, that micro level that sums and interacts with others generating a definite impact on the macro.

Because of too many factors, it is not possible to correct the macro level, even though we have been trying for ages. But to reach the micro level is EXTREMELY possible as it is under our power and control. And if we change the self, the world will be changed too at some point.

So, a point for reflection: what is the surgery we should undergo, in terms of the soul? By fixing the illnesses of the self, the world will heal.

Peace within, peace outside

I do believe that whatever is inside will come outside at some point. So, if you cultivate peace within…

Maybe the world won’t turn peaceful completely.

It is quite possible your country will keep on experiencing violence.

Your city won’t be peaceful immediately, in fact not even your neighborhood.

Maybe your house will feel your peace, not sure about your work or school.

However, if you REALLY invest time and energy in that wonderful experience of peace, inside you…

At some point, people at your company, school or family will realize that and they will feel inspired to tap into that same source of peace.

Each person you touch will touch other people in your neighborhood, city, country or abroad; and many of them will be peaceful.

And one day, you will look at what you have inspired or created: the wonderful peaceful world we all want to come.

Is this new age or just passing moments?

From time to time, there is news circulating around that the world is changing, things are improving and it is much better. And then, things change… back… or worse.

What is going on really? Is there any fate related to our civilization that we must get worse instead of improving?

First of all, we have improved in many different aspects… on a physical level. The mere fact we wash our hands and how much that impacts our health is amazing. And what about all the benefits that come with the Internet…

The problem is in terms of perception: maybe we are better, but internally we are not adapting to welcome the changes in the world. Maybe we are living a new age, but internally we are still in living in the old age.

And there are two paths we may follow if we want to live this new age that is just there, ahead of us:
  1. We can adapt externally and hope for the best, focusing on new generations; maybe they will be able to take full advantage of this new era.
  2. We should reflect more and check what is to be done internally, so that we don’t miss the new possibilities and at the same time, we feel satisfied internally.

What is the path you are going to follow? Are you going to wait for the next generation to eat the fruit of all the advancement of our civilization, or are it is going to be you who will eat that and then share to others? Make a decision and quick, as the world keeps on changing.

The new normal, or just a degraded old normal?

What will be our new chapter?

Our civilization is in a crossroad: either we will start a new phase, or there is a big opportunity for that, or…

…or will we go back to an old normal with a mask?

Today, there was an article on the bad normality that is the return of bad situations like the pollution in the cities, traffic jam or a bad handling of unemployment by the governments. Unfortunately, as we are coming back to action after a global quarantine, that is what is being noticed in many places.

I ask myself: what will be the key factor that will determine our destiny as a civilization? Well, there are many possibilities, but there is one that I find it is crucial.

You! Me!

We are the ones holding the key for the major breakthrough or to go back to the old world we left a few months ago. Our attitude, awareness and behavior will define more than our own future. Yours, mine, ours.

How and why?

Hope, enthusiasm, creativity, innovation, kindness… these are not only words or virtues, they are real and we have been hearing about them a lot, we have seen them in other people’s eyes or actions, and we have been living them in many different ways. In this way, we are creating a new normal and a new reality.

Remember: the key is with us…

Our story…

If three people would meet today, each one could have their own story.

The first would share about separation and the pain another caused. But they would also share about their conquests: a new job, a new place to live, a new hope in life…
The second would share about their illness, a sickness that is preventing them to live life fully. And yet, there is a project of writing a new book and share with other people the art of meditation.
The third would be quiet, overwhelmed by memories of what happened during this year that is about to end… So many bad things, so many good things…

When they separated, the first one would have left with new projects in their life, thinking on how to make that happen. The New Year turns into a wonderful opportunity.
The second one would leave quietly, merged in a healing silence, doing the balance of the year that is finishing. The New Year is the chance to increase possibilities.
The third one would regret not having told others about their own newness, so immediately they would start to write to the others about it. The New Year is a blank page where to design their life.

As humans, today is a crossover between ages and eras, at a threshold of a new year, a new world. Today, it is a time of checking and planning, changing and dreaming, to discover more about others and themselves. May we always remember the lessons and keep on dreaming…

A very happy new year for you!

A better world

Everything we do is related to a better world we want to create. When we build a new building, a house or just take a child to a school, our best hopes is that will create a better world.

Of course, a better world will have economy, social structure and science operating. It is part of human civilization to have a culture, customs and ideas to share among all. That means to create a better world is to create a better economy, a better social structure, a better science, better culture, better customs and better ideas...

The implication is that it is something difficult, even impossible. As an individual I can't see how I am contributing for that, we can never forget the effect we have on each other. In a subtle and obvious way, we influence others through our behavior, reaction, gestures, ideas, thoughts, vibrations, feelings and words. In this way, we help direct others towards a better world, or to remain in this old and worse world (after all, that is the implication of creating a better world...).

I feel personally that all of us could be in heaven right now. If we share what we have, if we help each other... but then I remember the only thing I can do is to create a better me and I start doing all of that.

Yes, a better world won't be created by a coup d'état or some marvelous invention. Many better people working with that aim in mind, they will generate a better world.

So, why not starting right now? From your mind and thoughts, from your vibration and feelings, from a smile and a phone call to someone, from recycling and using resources in a better way... We can start right now. I, you, can start right now.

Let's do it.

Can democracy survive?

As a social species, we need to organize ourselves. Even when anarchy or chaos reigns, still we, as humans, organize ourselves in some way, as it is shown in the many attempts during history to establish a society without a government where everyone was equal. As some people say, these societies naturally reached a point where "everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others".

Therefore, one of the crucial questions we have to ask ourselves at this new century is: what is the best way to organize our societies?

That is a question for world scholars and those people who are engaged in these topics. "Organize" does not only mean defining the type of government, its meaning is broader than that. And it is so important that an idea comes, and very soon.

As we see, the world looks like a ship without a captain, trying to find its route on the waves of life. There is no logic in what is happening, and there shouldn't be as we are during a confluence period.

Before, we had the horrible struggle between democracy - a system that started in the past and provided an enticing way to put people on the rule of themselves - and non-democracy - varying from dictatorship to systems where a party, a small group of people, ruled over the rest.

I am saying before... I am aware this struggle still exists, but I can see it is part of a transition period.

On one hand, democracy got corrupted, sorry, there is no other word. At some places, dictators openly use democracy to justify their rule, as they are able to convince others to vote on them forever, taking one of the big benefits that came with democracy which is the variety of opinions and possibilities. At others, corruption is literal and power is split between those with more money or more influence.

On the other hand, people are awakening, and fast. They are overthrowing their own governments, demanding more participation and fighting for their own liberty. Sometimes, just as it happens when you awake after a deep sleep and you are not sure what you are doing, they make more wrongs than rights, but it is their learning process...

So, what will come then? That was the question, more focused into economics, Peter Drucker used to ask too. In fact, he predicted a time when poor would cross that invisible line and will fight the rich.

Economy is just part of the whole picture, and a small one, as we move from one world system to another.

While others probably are seeing a big hurricane coming, and very fast, where governments will be replaced either by chaos or tyrants, I am on the side of the dreamers. I think we are creating a new world, where all our learning from past mistakes will make earth into a real paradise. I do believe in that...

The What's of life

If you go back to the post former to this one, you'll see a nice picture there, and I would like to really go through it.

  • What you Love - that is what really make you move, challenge life and comforts, and change your perspective. This is why many people say that the only way for you to never work in life is to love whatever you do. But, LOVE, from the depth of your heart, with all your senses and understanding.
  • What you Do Well - there are things that you don't necessarily love, but you know how to do it well. I know a person who is excellent with equipment, but he does not like that. Still, your specialities, skills and talents help you to serve the community where you live.
  • What the World will Need - well, a part of what you do and are contributes to the world somehow. If you are able to identify those aspects of your life that the world really needs today, even though people don't know they need that, then your life will be worthy to the world itself.
  • What the World will Pay for - but there are things you can offer the world and, well, charge for it. They are important in a certain context and somehow they help people who appreciate that. And you are the best provider around!
So, now, I would like to ask you 4 questions:
  1. What are you ready to do, it doesn't matter how many obstacles you will have to face to do it?
  2. What are those things you do that people are satisfied and happy with that.
  3. Do you know what you do that makes your heart deeply satisfied because you were able to help the whole world?
  4. What are the main products you can offer to the world at this moment?
In the next post, we will talk about the intersections.

A positive approach about human kind

It is true that mankind has created very sofisticated means to destroy itself.

But it is also true we created many means to rebuild ourselves. Many more than the ones to destroy us.

Perhaps, that is hard to see when we look at the surface of things and situations. But all, destruction and construction, comes from the minds of men and women, children and elderly, people of all colours and paths of life.

This is now the time for rebuilding the world, to create a new society where what we value is so powerful, so powerful, that no trace of our capacity for destruction remains.

This is the time. Right now. Make your choice!
